E-Books
Books that are published exclusively digitally are also subject to legal deposit. We are responsible for the collection and preservation of both physical and digital cultural heritage.
About digital legal deposit
Royal Danish Library, as a cultural heritage institution under the Ministry of Culture, is responsible for the collection and preservation of both physical and digital cultural heritage. We collect some digital materials ourselves automatically, but there is a lot of content that we cannot collect in this way.
We therefore encourage all publishers, authors and others associated with digital publications to submit a copy of them to us. This way you will help us preserve the digital cultural heritage. You submit by using the upload function on this page.
If you have material for legal deposit that you cannot upload here, for example magazines, audiobooks or podcasts, you are very welcome to contact us .
Upload your book
Royal Danish Library uses MitID to verify your identity.
How to upload e-books
Before uploading, make sure you have the e-book file available in the correct format and that you have the publication information ready. To upload, you must log in with MitID.
What file types should we use?
The e-book file must be in one of the following formats: pdf, opf, epub, ibooks, azw, azw3, kf8, kfx or mobi.
We automatically receive all e-books and audiobooks distributed via Publizon. Therefore, you do not need to upload your publication to us if you already distribute your books via Publizon.
If you represent a publisher or digital distributor, please contact us so that we can give you access to upload the publications together.
What happens to the material?
Once we have received your upload, we will preserve the content for posterity in accordance with the rules and guidelines in force at any time.
We provide access to the content in accordance with applicable legislation, including the Copyright Act. You can find Danish Legal Deposit Act at retsinformation.dk .
