Elsevier agreement 2021-24
Royal Danish Library's national licensing consortium has, on behalf of the Danish universities and other research institutions, entered into a four-year agreement with Elsevier from 2021 to 2024.

The agreement is the first in Denmark to ensure full reading access to Elsevier's journals and free and immediate access (Open Access) to the articles published by researchers at the institutions covered by the agreement.
Here are some of the main points of the agreement:
- The price of the agreement is fixed for the entire period and is based on the price in 2020.
- There is full and unchanged reading access to the Elsevier portfolio for contractual partners covered by the contract.
- Permanent access to 75% of the Elsevier portfolio is ensured, so that institutions themselves can select the part that is considered most valuable, even after the contract expires.
- Immediate and free Open Access publishing for the publisher's final version with a Creative Commons license in the licensed Elsevier portfolio when the author is the corresponding author affiliated with an institution covered by the agreement.
- Approx. 600 Gold Open Access journals at Elsevier (see list below) and a list of approx. 80 licensed titles have not been negotiated as part of the contract.
- Institution-neutral price increase on databases and reference tools from Elsevier of 1.12%

How do I do it?
Once your research article has been accepted for publication, it is important that you choose your institutional affiliation with your corresponding email address so that you can publish under Elsevier's Open Access terms. The agreement covers articles submitted from January 1, 2021 to December 31, 2024.
- Use your institutional email as the corresponding author from an affiliated institution covered by the agreement.
- Select Gold OA to publish your article with no publication fee.
- Select a Creative Commons license .
On Elsevier's website you will find this instructional video on the Gold Open Access: Central Funding Agreement.
Principles for corresponding author
Under the new agreements between publishers and the Royal Danish Library, researchers have the opportunity to publish their articles Open Access (OA) without payment of APC, provided they meet the requirements below and thus qualify as corresponding author in general and under the terms of the individual agreement.
General principles
- Corresponding author must be employed, or a student, at one of the institutions that subscribe to the agreement
- A corresponding author may have dual employment, e.g. at hospital and university or university and company, where only one institution is part of the agreement. At least one of the places of employment must be included in the agreement.
- The research described in the article must have been carried out primarily at the institution that is part of the agreement, and the institution where the article is registered in PURE.
- Corresponding author must explicitly credit and use the name of the institution that is part of the agreement as its primary affiliation
- Corresponding author must use the institutional e-mail address for the institution that is part of the agreement under author information in the article.
- Corresponding author is encouraged to use ORCID to indicate alternative e-mail addresses; e.g. personal e-mail address.
Elsevier agreement 2021-2024
- The agreement covers institutions listed below that subscribe to Elsevier Freedom Collection journals
- Corresponding author must be or have been employed, or a student, in the period 2020-2024, as it must be considered likely that a researcher may have been employed in 2020 - i.e. the year before the agreement comes into force - but research results have first been described and peer reviewed in the period from 2021. Employment that ends before 2020 does not count as qualifying.
- A number of institutions subscribe to individual journals outside the Freedom Collection, e.g. Journal of Investigative Dermatology and Genetics in Medicine. The institutions that subscribe to the individual titles in addition to the Freedom Collection also have OA publication rights in these journals.
- Where an institution subscribes to e.g. a single journal and not on the entire Freedom Collection, then the corresponding author does not have the option of OA publication without payment of APC under the agreement
The agreement does not cover Gold Open Access journals published by Elsevier.
