Elsevier Agreement 2025-2028
Royal Danish Library has entered into a new four year agreement with Elsevier (2025-2028) on behalf of Danish Universities and other research institutions.

The agreement with Elsevier includes both a read and a publish component. Subscribing institutions are granted read access to all Freedom Collection journals and may freely choose to subscribe to other journal packages and single titles. The agreement also covers the Article Processing Charges (APCs) of Open Access articles published in selected hybrid journals both within and outside of the Freedom Collection.
Main points of the agreement
- Full read access to the +2.200 journals in the Freedom Collection
- Coverage of APCs for Open Access articles published in selected hybrid journals
- No limit (cap) on the number of Open Access articles that can be published in the journals
covered by the agreement - Articles should be accepted for publication during the term of the agreement (1 January 2025-31 December 2028)
- CC BY is the default license but other types of Creative Commons licenses can be requested depending on the journal

Checklist for Open Access publishing
In order to publish your article Open Access under the terms of the agreement you should meet the following conditions:
- Be affiliated with one of the institutions that participate in the agreement
- Figure as the corresponding author of the manuscript
- Follow the Royal Danish Library’s Guidelines for Open Access publications
- Have your manuscript accepted for publication under the term of the agreement
- Choose an eligible journal
You can find the list of subscribing institutions, an overview of the article types that are covered in the agreement, a definition of the corresponding author’s role, videos with instructions on the submission process etc. at Elsevier’s webpage on the agreement.
Please note: at Elsevier’s webpage on the agreement you can find a list of the hybrid journals in the Freedom Collection for which APCs are covered under this agreement (Core Hybrid titles).
The search tool available at Elsevier’s webpage on the agreement CANNOT indicate whether a hybrid journal outside of the Freedom Collection is covered since this depends on each institutions’ specific subscriptions. In order to get a complete list of the Elsevier journals in which the corresponding authors from your institution can publish Open Access without paying an APC please contact your institution’s library or research support.
