What is Royal Danish Library's document service?

The service includes delivery of articles published in international scientific journals and is always delivered digitally – often within a few minutes.

Document service is targeted at organizations that occasionally need access to research literature and where the cost of ongoing journal subscriptions does not balance the need.

Royal Danish Library offers and administers document services together with our technical partner Research Solutions.

Who can use Royal Danish Library's document service?

We will initially only offer document services to organizations that have an existing collaboration/service agreement with Royal Danish Library. Read more about service agreements .

Contact us if you are in doubt about whether your organization has a collaboration/service agreement with us - or if you would like to hear more about the possibilities for creating an agreement.

What does it cost?

There are two types of costs related to the service; direct costs and administrative costs:

Direct costs

There are two direct costs:

  • A fixed shipping fee per ordered item, which in 2025 is 4 USD.
  • A variable cost per ordered item, consisting of a royalty to the copyright holder.
The royalty varies depending on the item ordered. Your organization has the option to define a cap on this expense.

Administrative costs

The administrative costs you need to be aware of depend on whether your organization is an educational institution or another type of organization.
